Looking for the next Florida Spring adventure? Silver Glen Springs should be in your list. Silver Glen Springs is a beautiful crystal clear water spring located in the Ocala National Forest. The water temperature is around 73*F. This spring ends in Lake George, the largest of the St. Johns River Chain of Lakes. Silver Glen Springs is used as a popular day recreation area and it’s also a important archaeological site. The park is open daily from 8:00 am until 8:00 pm, but hours may vary by season. This Spring is a great place to visit with family and friends due to the different activities it has to offer, meaning there is something to do for everyone in your crew. Not only it has different activities, but you can enjoy a full day in this beautiful spring at low costs because it’s a very budget friendly place. So what can you do in the beautiful Silver Glen Springs? It all depends what you enjoy doing the most. The activities include: swimming, snorkeling, kayaking/canoeing, boating, fishing, barbecuing, picnicking and/or hiking. Silver Glen Springs is a beautiful place to disconnect from our daily life routines. You are surrounded by a scenic and natural space that helps you relax and enjoy the moment. This place is popular for swimmers and snorkelers because it offers shallow and deep clear waters. Additionally, there is a “big hole” where you can see hundreds of fishes in the area making it a very breath taking scenery.
My experience in Silver Glen Springs was amazing. I definitely enjoyed my day and disconnected for a couple of hours. My husband and I went on a Friday in the month of July. Since it was right in the middle of Summer, we arrived at the front gate at 7:50 am and we were the second car in line. They have a great parking area and everything went smoothly in the front gate where we paid for the entrance. We decided to only relax, swim and snorkel that day. This means, we did not pay to go canoeing, but it is definitely on my list of things to do. Once we arrived at the spring we settled and took the closest picnic table in front of the spring so we can watch our belongings. We were the first people to enter the Spring water in the morning and it was definitely a breath taking experience to see everything so calm and in its natural state. Once we entered the water, I can say it was one of the coldest water I have ever felt before and it took a couple of minutes for me to enter the water completely. After we entered the water, we put on our gaggles and went to the “deep area” of as other call it “the hole”. I was truly amazed with how beautiful, blue and clear everything looked. It was amazing as well to see all the fishes that were in that area. Once the hours passed, the spring started getting a little crowded since it is a very famous place to visit and by noon or so, it was full at capacity. That is why I recommend visiting these places very early and on weekdays to truly enjoy the moment.
My tips to have a great experience:
- Pay Attention to the Weather prior days in advance.
- Arrive before 8:00 am to be the first person to enter the Spring.
- Arrive early to have a picnic table (first come, first get).
- Bring Bug Spray.
- Bring Sunscreen.
- Bring Towels.
- Bring a Hat.
- Bring Snorkel Goggles.
- Bring Snacks, Lunches and Drinks in re-usable containers.
- Respect the Nature Preserve Areas.
- Pickup your trash when leaving.
The next time you decide to take a trip to Florida, I recommend this beautiful spring. Remember to bring your snorkels so you can meet the fishes face to face. You will not regret visiting and living an experience in Silver Glen Springs. As a friendly reminder, try to always get out of the daily routine. Make memories that will last a lifetime. Take pictures and videos that you will see a couple years later and feel happy about them.
During the pandemic/Covid-19 days, always try to keep the CDC guidelines. Please follow the 6 foot distance rule from other families, wear a mask whenever possible and if your health permits it. Wash your hands, take hand sanitizer and go as early as possible to avoid being in big crowds.
As always, hoped you enjoyed this blog. Feel free to reply and recommend new places for me to visit. Thank you so much for reading this post.
